Working with Ibexa and AI: Innovation, privacy, and governance

Ever since the launch of ChatGPT, there has been a proliferation of AI in all walks of life. From amusing friends with absurd poems to working with ideas for business content, it's now going from a novelty to a daily tool for getting things done.

But as the initial sense of wonder and novelty is wearing off, attention is shifting to one, central question: What about privacy and control?

Ibexa DXP is all about helping teams work efficiently with content and data. And because no organization works in a vacuum, the platform is designed to integrate smoothly with other systems - including AI tools.

Since Ibexa DXP 4.6, we have been adding AI capabilities into the core of our products. For end users, these show up in the interface as helpful features like:

  • AI-powered text editing
  • Automatic image captioning.

These functionalities build on our internal AI framework and APIs. The low-level tooling is fully exposed to developers who are free to extend the features for their customers.

Let's explore a few ways Ibexa DXP can help fill the requirements of business and technology stakeholders in companies deploying AI in their organization.

Consolidate and integrate

Large companies often choose to consolidate systems to specific vendors. We expect the same to happen for AI. Instead of every department picking its own provider, we expect to see company-wide platforms.

These can be commercial providers such as Anthropic, Mistral or OpenAI or openly available, privately hosted models like Deepseek, Llama or Qwen. In special cases, some might even choose custom-built models.

These shared resources will need to integrate with a number of tools. Engineering, sales, and marketing can share the same platform, but the integrations into their respective systems can be different.

An Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) is a rapid integration enabler. At Ibexa, our iPaaS product is known as Connect and it allows you to create and manage integrations with a simple user interface.

With the latest release of Ibexa DXP, we’ve made it possible to connect our AI framework with Ibexa Connect. Connect can then leverage its built-in modules to work with a number of systems, including many popular AI providers. This means that anyone familiar with Connect can create custom AI integrations from and to Ibexa DXP.

If you're already using Ibexa DXP 4.6 and Connect, now is a great time to explore what’s possible with the AI-related connectors. There are some quick wins waiting.

On privacy and governance

While we often talk about privacy in personal terms, organizations also need to consider how they protect confidential information. Industrial espionage has been around since the dawn of man and today data can be a company’s main competitive advantage.

A data leak can be an embarrassing leak of pricing information prior to a launch or trade secrets like information on components suppliers. Critical data is likely housed internally in a secure system, but casual use of tools like ChatGPT can lead to this data being made accessible externally - or even being used to train the AI model.

To avoid these risks, organizations can:

·         Review terms of use meticulously

·         Implement protections against data leaks

Or, even better, deploy a private model which uses a base model but does not leak data outside.

This can enable your organization to have better information security, but also further improve the model by merging it with your own private data.

Cost is another issue that is likely to become an issue with liberal AI use. AI compute is not a renewable resource and API usage can quickly spiral out of control.

Ibexa DXP offers ways to manage this too. For example:

  • Throttling access to APIs
  • Creating a custom proxy to cascade request primarily to self-hosted APIs
  • In case results are not acceptable, it can tap into an external provider.

Final thoughts

AI is more than just a funny gimmick. It’s a business tool, and it needs to be treated as such.

But using it well means integrating it into your systems in a way that’s thoughtful, secure, and scalable.

Ibexa DXP is designed with that in mind, giving teams both the flexibility to innovate and the structure to stay in control.
