The OQEMA Group is a major European chemical distributor connecting global manufacturers with the processing industry. They manage over 15,000 products across diverse sectors, including life sciences and industrial chemicals.

Ibexa partner

An Ibexa Silver Partner, the Kaliop group specializes in digital transformation and innovation. Having experienced continuous growth since its creation in 2002, the group now has nearly 200 digital experts on several continents. Thanks to its comprehensive digital and business expertise, it offers a global solution to its customers and partners alike.

When OQEMA began its digital transformation journey, the company faced a significant challenge: its digital presence no longer reflected its growth, its identity, or the evolving expectations of its customers

As one of Europe’s leading chemical distributors, OQEMA operates across 26 markets, each with distinct needs and varying levels of digital maturity. Over time, this led to a landscape where every market had its own Typo3-based website, often built and maintained by external agencies.

What emerged was not a cohesive group-wide presence, but a patchwork of disconnected digital experiences. Branding varied from country to country. Updates were slow and required agency involvement. Basic governance was difficult. And, crucially, OQEMA lacked a technical foundation for future digital services. The organization needed an integrated platform — one capable not only of bringing its markets together, but also of supporting its long-term vision for customer engagement, content management, and digital growth.

Ibexa DXP became the platform that would enable OQEMA to finally take control of its digital evolution.

From Fragmented Systems to a Strategic Digital Core

Before transitioning to Ibexa, OQEMA’s global team had limited ability to manage its online presence. Local markets lacked autonomy, but global teams lacked control — a very challenging situation for a modern B2B organization. Simple updates required external support. There was no shared structure, no common content library, and no way to scale or maintain consistency.

Implementing Ibexa DXP fundamentally changed this dynamic. OQEMA established a centralized digital foundation managed internally, while empowering local teams with clearly defined, easy-to-use tools. The formerly fragmented ecosystem was consolidated into a strategic digital core.

At the heart of this new structure is a multi-tree architecture designed to support the company’s multi-market reality. Each country now has its own dedicated site structure and translation setup, while a global content tree houses assets and materials intended for all regions. This approach preserves the nuances of each market but ties them into a single, coherent whole.

The introduction of a blueprint tree accelerated the process even further. Instead of designing every market site from scratch, OQEMA now starts from a unified template. This ensures consistency, reduces development time, and provides each new market with a polished, proven structure to build upon.

Empowering Teams Through Better Content Creation

Alongside structural improvements, Ibexa brought a transformative shift in the editorial experience. Previously, OQEMA’s teams had limited control over their content, and updates often required technical support. Now, with Ibexa Page Builder, editors can create, modify, and publish content independently in a matter of minutes.

The impact was immediate. Complex updates became simple. Local marketing teams gained confidence. The website became more dynamic, timely, and reflective of OQEMA’s activity and expertise.

A key reflection from OQEMA’s Marketing Manager, Svitlana Lahodych, illustrates the scale of this improvement:

Even colleagues who aren’t tech‑savvy feel comfortable within a week. That’s exactly what we needed to keep the website alive and updated.

This shift also ensured stronger brand alignment. With centrally approved assets, standardized components, and structured workflows, OQEMA can maintain consistency across dozens of markets without limiting local creativity or responsiveness.

A Technical Foundation for Advanced Digital Services

Beyond improvements in content and governance, Ibexa equips OQEMA with the infrastructure necessary for future innovation. The company operates a complex technical ecosystem, including SAP, S/4HANA, Salesforce, and an internal product management system. Historically, integrating these tools with the website has been challenging.

With Ibexa DXP and Ibexa Connect, OQEMA can now design a future in which product information flows directly from internal systems to the website, where customer portals become a natural extension of the business, and where advanced personalization can help tailor experiences to different industries and customer types.

Digital Architect Noorullah Noori described this readiness with clarity:

“We already know Ibexa can handle the complexity we have. It gives us the flexibility to evolve the platform as our needs grow.”

This flexibility positions OQEMA for a future where digital services play a central role in customer interaction, knowledge sharing, and operational efficiency.

Early Outcomes and Growing Alignment

The early results are promising. OQEMA’s new digital platform presents a modern, cohesive experience that better reflects the company’s identity. Internal teams have responded positively to the new design, the improved usability, and the increased stability of the system. Markets that once struggled with outdated tools now have a platform they can work with confidently.

The improved analytics offer deeper visibility into visitor behavior, enabling OQEMA to understand engagement patterns in ways that were previously unavailable. Early insights — such as increased visits during supplier-driven campaigns — demonstrate the platform’s commercial value as well as its communication potential.

Conclusion

The adoption of Ibexa DXP has given OQEMA far more than a new website. It has equipped the company with a strategic digital platform that supports unity, scalability, and innovation. By consolidating fragmented systems into a cohesive architecture, streamlining content creation, and preparing the ground for advanced digital services, OQEMA has taken a major step forward in its digital transformation journey.

What began as a modernisation project has become a cornerstone of the company’s long-term strategy — enabling OQEMA to operate more efficiently today while positioning it for digital excellence tomorrow.
