Ibexa DXP v5: Realtime Collaboration example in Ibexa Commerce

From building ships to working on marketing campaigns, cooperation is a natural part of most professions. Ibexa DXP is a multi-user platform that is at heart a collaboration tool, but we're taking it to the next level with realtime collaboration features.

The new capabilities build on our robust content repository, versioning and permissions system. Integrated to this stack is a new content editor that enables users to edit the same content draft together in real time. The owner of the draft can initiate a collaboration session where other users can join.

Collaborative rich text editing is intuitive and a powerful tool for reviewing and editing together. Combined with a separate online meeting can help you make edits on the spot. Realtime collaboration works with all content and product types. This includes content built with page builder and enables working together on dynamic campaign landing pages where the traditional draft-based collaboration is not optimal.

In addition to working with users in the DXP, collaboration also enables full previews to external users. This can be internal people who generally don't use Ibexa DXP in their daily work, or external stakeholders who need to be able to review and approve content before publishing.

Developers can extend collaboration

The end user features we ship with this release build on our new internal APIs. This includes the groundwork for managing collaboration sessions and invitations. As a platform Ibexa DXP lends itself to developers to use these capabilities in creative ways.

In a session at the Ibexa Summit 2025 Marek Nocoń presented an interesting example: Creating a shared shopping basket for Ibexa Commerce using the realtime collaboration infrastructure. Finally, it's worth noting that these features and APIs are included in the new Ibexa DXP v5 release, but it is also available as a feature update to the Ibexa DXP 4.6 version.
